Located 12 miles from downtown San Francisco across the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Oakland is the largest city and the county seat of Alameda County. As part of the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) system that also serves Berkeley and San Francisco, Oakland is a thriving port city in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area and a hub for great music, sports, dining, drinks and outdoor fun.

As the third largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area, Oakland is home to nearly half a million people and is home to Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics. Lake Merritt is the perfect place to unwind while Grand Lake Farmer's Market is one of the hottest spots in California.

With a calendar filled full of festivals, visitors to Oakland can sample an endless array culinary styles and flavors no matter what time of year. Mix in a lively art scene, prime shopping, and a large urban lake, and you’ve got a decidedly modern city with a lot of variety to offer.

Located an hour from the famous Napa and Sonoma wine regions, Oakland is a gateway to Northern California, and a fusion city in all respects. Food truck rallies serve up diverse cuisines throughout the city, or you can stop by one of several farmers markets to sample some locally grown fare.

Stroll down the Oakland Urban Wine Trail to experience the city’s unique history of winemaking. Lake Merritt is a blend of fresh and salt water. You can walk or bike the perimeter, or dine along the waterfront after taking in a gondola ride while you immerse yourself in the glory that is GSBF Bonsai Garden. Or, if you prefer to get lost in the forest, Redwood Regional Park, east of Oakland, is teeming with tall majestic trees and offers some of the best views of the entire Bay Area.

Kids or all ages will be enchanted by Children’s Fairyland, and the nearby Oakland Zoo. No visit to Oakland is complete without spending time at Jack London Square and the Waterfront, situated on the Oakland/Alameda estuary and comprised of a district of shopping and dining options along with outdoor activities such as kayaking, biking, and movies under the stars.
